Burning is regulated by the Division of Forestry, Department of Health, Indian River County Fire Rescue and each municipality.

The Indian River County Fire Prevention Bureau prohibits burning when any of these conditions exist:

Relative humidity below 35% for any duration and wind speed greater than 15 mph sustained.
Relative humidity below 35% for 4 or more hours.
Relative humidity below 35% for any duration and forecast afternoon dispersion index greater than 75.
